Announcing: The 2026 Biophilic Palette

Announcing: The 2026 Biophilic Palette

January 27, 2026·3 min read

To kick off 2026, we are introducing a shift in our visual direction. You asked for softer, more organic options to complement the increasingly naturalized styles of modern landscape architecture. We listened.

We are adding four new standard finishes to our super-durable powder coat collection, designed to harmonize with the landscape rather than compete with it. These are matte, mineral-based tones intended to provide "Visual Softening" in high-traffic areas.

The "Calm" Collection:

  • Cactus Green: A vibrant yet matte organic green that blends with foliage rather than competing with it.
  • Quartz: A textured mineral finish in a soothing sage green. It mimics the look of mossy stone, offering a tactile and forgiving surface for high-traffic zones.
  • Tile Blue: A soft, grounding oceanic tone that anchors a space without dominating it.
  • Smoky Grey Green: A complex neutral designed to bridge the gap between hardscape (concrete) and softscape (grass).

The Science: Why "Soft" Matters

Lately, we've been diving into the concept of Neuro-Urbanism—the study of how physical spaces influence our neural processes and emotions.

It's a fascinating field that moves beyond abstract theory into Evidence-Based Design. The core idea is simple: our brains are constantly, subconsciously scanning our environment.

  • High Contrast & Rigid Forms: Sharp angles and jarring color shifts can increase cognitive load. The brain has to work harder to process these "unnatural" signals, often resulting in subtle stress.
  • Biophilic Colours & Curvilinear Forms: Earth tones and organic shapes mimic the environments we evolved in. They are "easy" for our brains to process, signaling safety and promoting restoration.

We aren't scientists, but we are deeply interested in how these insights can help us build better parks. For us, it's about acknowledging that a bench isn't just a place to sit; it's part of the Brain-Environment Connection.

Social Scaffolding

Neuro-urbanism isn't just about the colour we see; it's about the form we experience. While the new palette addresses "Visual Softening," we also need tools that address "Social Connection."

Meet the Strataview Step Bench Designed to solve the problem of awkward grade changes, the Strataview 5ft Step Bench is a modular system that functions like "Amphitheater Seating in a Box."

  • Modular Design: Units can be linked to create straight runs or curved, stadium-style seating.
  • High Capacity: It turns a small footprint into high-density seating (5–6 adults per unit).
  • Pro-Social Geometry: The tiered layout allows groups to gather naturally without blocking sightlines.

The Application: Yorkson Community Park

We recently saw the "Pro-Social" power of the Strataview system come to life in the Township of Langley.

  • The Challenge: A steep grade change between the viewing area and the sports field.
  • The Solution: Using the Strataview system to turn a retaining wall into a community asset.

A Note on Context: While our new palette is all about calm, this project shows how to handle High-Energy Zones. The park uses bold, playful colours to match the excitement of the sports field, but it relies on the Strataview's form to create a sense of refuge for parents and spectators. It's a perfect example of matching the design to the activity.

A huge thank you to Jacqueline Lowe and the Township of Langley for partnering with us! We have a LOT more to share about the specific products and design details, so keep an eye out for an in-depth case study coming soon. Seeing the site packed with families during our recent visit was a true highlight.

Looking Ahead

We are energized by the momentum we're seeing in sustainable, inclusive design as we kick off 2026. We are currently working behind the scenes on significant initiatives designed to make bringing your vision to life easier and faster. We can't wait to share these updates with you later this year.

Thank you for your continued partnership. We look forward to another amazing year of transforming public spaces together.
